Stockton, CA (September 16, 2021) – One person was killed and two more were badly injured during a police chase that ended in a head-on collision on Thursday, September 16th.
The crash took place in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 at the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp at about 2:40 a.m. when CHP troopers were notified of a chase going on between the Elk Grove Police Department and a suspect in a stolen vehicle.
Elk Grove police were chasing a suspect driving a gold Honda Accord. The police decided to forego the chase when the suspect entered the southbound lanes of SR-99 at Calvine Road going the wrong way.
CHP began their leg of the pursuit but was then notified of the accident.
The suspect, 34-year-old Jacob McPherson, a resident of Sacramento, struck a Honda Insight head-on. According to officers, one other person was in the Accord with McPherson.
All three people were extricated from their respective vehicles and transported to area hospitals.
The passenger of the Honda Accord passed away due to their injuries at the hospital.
McPherson and the driver of the Honda Insight both sustained serious injuries.
