7 ways to get into the spirit of the season - Boston.com

The pumpkin carving event at Harpoon Brewery lets patrons make a jack-o-lantern while they sip on a brew.

There’s also no shortage of events to enjoy this spooky season. From bar crawls and brewery tours to corn mazes or haunted happenings, locals can celebrate the season in a range of ways.

The Official Halloween Bar Crawl

Put on your best costume – the Official Halloween Bar Crawl returns to Faneuil Hall on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30.

The ticket price includes cover charges as well as discounts on food and drinks. The festivities include a costume contest, and spooky-themed drinks at venues around Faneuil Hall.

Work your way through a corn maze at night

Head to Ipswich and explore the 8-acre corn maze at Marini Farm at night with their Flashlight Nights at Marini Farm. Try to answer questions at 18 stations placed throughout the maze and track your progress towards getting out as you check off the questions.

The average time to complete the corn maze, according to farm officials, is 1.5 hours. Dress accordingly and don’t forget a flashlight.

Flashlight Nights are every Friday and Saturday night in October, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Last tickets sold at 9:30.

The Salem Psychic Fair & Witches’ Market

The “Witch City” is a must for any Halloween fan. The city about 16 miles north of Boston offers a full slate of events and activities throughout the month and welcomes tourists from around the country.

On Oct. 22, visitors can stop in the Psychic Fair and Witches’ Market to get a psychic reading from the city’s most gifted Psychics.

Carve a pumpkin – at a brewery

Practice your pumpkin carving skills at the Harpoon Brewery during a night of Halloween-themed fun on Oct. 21, beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are $30 and include a drink, a pretzel, a pumpkin, carving tools, and Harpoon-themed stencils (or you can bring your own).

Watch a flick

Head to the Somerville Theatre on Halloween night to watch a classic.

There will be a special screening of “Dracula” on Halloween night, with live musical accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis, beginning at 7:30.

On Oct. 30, the theatre will offer a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, with a live shadowcast by the Teseracte Players.

Doors open at 7 and the show starts at 8.

Masks are required, as well as proof of COVID vaccination or a 72-hour negative COVID test to enter the theatre.

Hear some ‘haunted’ classical music

Enjoy classical music like never before during “Candlelight Halloween: A Haunted Evening of Classical Compositions” on Oct. 28.

The 60-minute show at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Boston will feature the talented Listeso String Quartet “performing a mix of classical and modern spooky pieces” in a candlelight setting.

Get scared at Witch’s Woods

While not recommended for children under the age of 6 (and babies and toddlers are not allowed), the elaborate Halloween attraction at Nashoba Valley has been a tradition for Halloween fans seeking to be scared for more than 20 years.
