CCFF, the first film festival named after a city in China and the film festival with the highest latitude in China, was founded in 1992. A total of 17 festivals were held in 31 years, with the scale effect expanding continuously and the brand value increasing. CCFF has grown into a grand cultural occasion renowned both at home and abroad, which has become the brightest city "name card" and "gold-lettered signboard" of Changchun, Jilin.
This year's festival was chaired by renowned director, screenwriter and producer Huang Jianxin, with director Zheng Dasheng, cinematographer Zhao Fei, actress Yu Nan, actor Zhu Yawen, screenwriter Guo Junli, and musician Shunan on the judging panel. The "Golden Deer Award" has set up 10 awards, including the Best Picture Award, the Judging Panel Award, the Best Director Award, the Best Actor Award, the Best Actress Award, the Best Screenwriter Award, the Best Cinematographer Award, the Best Music Award, the Best Film Editing Award, and the Best Debut Film Award.
This year's "Golden Deer Award" received a total of 182 film applications, with 75 films for the award competition and 107 films for exhibition, a total increase of 150% over the number of films collected in the previous year. Among them, the shortlisted films include the comedies Full River Red, One and Only, and Table for Six, sci-fi fantasy films Wandering Earth II, Creation of Gods I, and Cha A Er Zhong, war themed films Home Coming, Hidden Blade, and Born to Fly, suspense and crime films Lost in the Stars, The Procurator, and No More Bets, and inspirational films Ping Pong: The Triumph, Never Say Never, and In the Search of Lost Time.
It is worth mentioning that this year's festival has added the annual theme of "New Breakthrough" to the regular theme of "New Era, New Cradle, New Strength", which refers to Changchun's role in film and its cultural commitment to "achieving a new breakthrough in comprehensive revitalization."
This year's festival has set up a total of six units of the main activities, including opening and closing ceremonies, film awards, film screenings, film forums, tribute to the "cradle", and market integration. During the same period, a series of activities such as the 6th China Film New Power Forum, film and television industry seminar, theme forum of "Discussing Films and Seeking the Essence", tribute to the cradle - "Night of Changchun Film Festival" Gala, and the launching ceremony of "Guangming Cinema" will be held.
From 2015 to 2019, the New Power of Chinese Cinema Forum has been successfully held five times as a "wind vane" for Chinese-language cinema. The Forum, held during this year's festival, is for the third time to be held in Changchun, fully demonstrating the confidence and recognition of the Chinese film industry in the CCFF. Nearly 100 young film producers, producers, screenwriters and directors who are active on the market will go to Changchun to integrate the new power of the Chinese film industry and jointly promote the sustained and healthy development of Chinese films at the starting point of Chinese films.
Changchun is the cradle of China's film industry, with profound film culture. Currently, Changchun City is vigorously implementing the Three Year Action of Comprehensive Revitalization and New Breakthroughs. Taking this film festival as an opportunity, the intention is to accelerate the cultivation and growth of the cultural industry, promote a number of major projects, and continuously expand and enhance the driving force of movies to achieve new breakthroughs in comprehensive revitalization.
Not long ago, the Changchun Municipal People's Government formulated and issued the Several Measures to Promote the High Quality Development of the Film and Television Industry, further improving the integration, innovation, and aggregation of the film and television cultural industry. Compared with the previous support policies for the industry, this policy has a greater degree of support and more specific and practical measures, playing a role in stimulating key film and television projects and driving the industrial ecology.
Composer Shu Nan, who served as a judge for the third time at the Festival, said, "In the past decade or so, I have witnessed the tremendous changes in Chinese cinema, as well as in Changchun and CCFF. I am looking forward to coming back to Changchun to experience the charm of the CCFF."
The 18th CCFF hopes to create more high-quality brands and projects that will unite the development of Chinese cinema, showcasing the magnificent picture of the new era of Chinese cinema.
The 18th CCFF will close on September 2nd, and the selection results of the "Golden Deer Award" will be unveiled.
