Is there anything better than relaxing on your terrace with a good book, flowers blooming all around you, birds chirping in the trees, and a steaming cup of coffee never out of reach? Unfortunately, we all know how our gardens tend to look after a long snowy winter and moody March with its humorous showers. This year get an early start and prepare your slice of paradise for spring. Here are some ideas on how to give your terrace and garden a remake that is original, effective, and won't break the bank!
Deck floors
Have you looked at them lately? How many winters has it been, eight, nine? Changing all the outside floor is quite a financial undertaking, but you don't have to go that far to make your deck shine again. First, give it a good scrub. Really put your hands to it, and scrub for your life. If your terrace is made of wood start by gently brushing or vacuuming it and then wash it with an appropriate wood detergent. Once dry, put a fresh layer of varnish on it to make your deck look like new.
Terrace railing
We often neglect this important aspect of our outdoor ambiance but proper fencing can make a huge difference to the whole outlook of your garden. That's why it's worth perusing deck railing ideas and chose something to your liking. If you don't want to redo them you can always go for one of the DIY solutions or simply cover your rails with flowers.
Make it green
Talking about flowers, how about going crazy with seed shopping this year? Depending on your particular house conditions, you can either cover your garden with new plants or, if your space is limited, buy thousands of colorful pots and hang them all around the terrace, creating a magical scene straight from a fairy tale. Pick up a few magazines and research. Find new beautiful flowers, read about how to plant and take care of them, and remeber to have fun with it. And if you're really not the gardening type, you can always hire somebody to do the tough job for you or invite that one aunt who enjoys being covered in mud.
Lights up
To add the finishing touch to your fairy tale picture, buy loads of twinkling lights and hang them everywhere. Go with silver and blue if you prefer colder tones, or beautiful golden lightbulbs to warm it up. You can also go nuts and buy colorful lights taken straight out of the Christmas tree. Nothing like good lighting to fix the mood.
Soundbath effect
People rarely think that they can have an influence on the sounds in their garden as well as the lighting or furniture. But there is so much you can do to add to the atmosphere of your terrace. Especially if your green space goes straight out to the neighbours house with their loud kids and that tiny dog that never stops barking.
Of course, if you're lucky to have a garden full of chirping birds, you might be pretty happy with its sound already but even then you might wanna add a few magical tweaks. One of my favorite invents is a rain drum. You can sprinkle them around your deck in places where water pours most during those spring storms. And you can never go wrong with windchimes, am I right?
Remember, that only some time, dedication and creativity separates you from the terrace of your dreams!
