iOS Holders with YouTube Premium can Now Enjoy Picture-in-Picture Features on their Devices

YouTube announced that they are working on the picture-in-picture launch for iOS devices, and all the Apple devices with iOS 14 will be able to leverage it.



YouTube has finally launched the most awaited picture-in-picture update. The company has now updated the picture-in-picture feature for iOS users as well. However, the feature will be currently limited to only YouTube premium members. Users will be able to use these distinctive features even while switching on different applications.

Earlier on, in June 2021, YouTube announced that they are working on the picture-in-picture launch for iOS devices, and all the Apple devices with iOS 14 will be able to leverage it. Moreover, the company also announced that iPads with the latest version of iOS 19 would also be able to use this new feature. 

Upon the new featured update, youtube proclaimed;

“For a limited time, Premium members can try out new features that we’re working on. As a Premium member, you’ll also enjoy as-free videos, downloads, and more.”

Although the feature was quite workable for users, in case they were enjoying YouTube on Safari, without being the premium users. However, many users complain that the picture-in-picture feature is not working properly for them on Safari. The company previously stated that they are working to roll out the feature soon. The feature is now launched, and only premium members (as YouTube earlier mentioned) can use it.

Other users with no premium YouTube subscription still have to wait until the featured updates are allowed to them. Some users stated that they were able to utilize the feature without any premium subscription, but the ratio of these users is very minimal.

While talking about the new roll-out, the company stated youtube;

“With Picture-in-picture (PiP), watch YouTube videos in a mini player while using other apps.”

A step-by-step guide to getting the update for premium subscribers;

In order to enable the mini player in picture-in-picture view, follow the guidelines and enjoy the continuous mini-view while scrolling other applications.

  1. Press the home button key, or swipe the touch-up to go back and enable the mini-player version of youtube on your mobile screens.
  2. A standard picture-in-picture view will open on your screen. Users will be able to see pause/play and backward/forwards panels on it.
  3. Users can also pinch inwards or outwards to increase or decrease the size of their mini player on the home screen, depending upon users’ preference.
  4. Open the YouTube.com/new on your YouTube premium. A prompt will appear asking for sign-in with Google. Complete the sign-in process.
  5. Below the new feature “translate comments,” you will find “picture-in-picture for iOS.” Click on it.
  6. Tap on “try it out,” and users will be enabled to use the new mini player view on their screens.

While talking about the lock screen rules, youtube stated;

“Locking the screen while watching in PiP will pause the video. You can resume the video using the lock screen media controls.”

However, the company updated that this feature will work till October 31. After that, YouTube might be planning to expand the utility of this feature to all its paid and unpaid users.
