Getting the attention of the press to notice your business is not easy. Journalists and editors are very busy individuals who are always looking for the latest breaking news. If your news story doesn’t capture their interest, there’s no chance they’ll pick it up.
Tiktoker Katie Jensen, a journalist herself, shared how businesses can get the press to notice their stories in this video. She enumerated three tips on how to do it.
1. Give them a good reason why they need to interview you. What is the news peg for the interview? Is it related to current events? Has your company just released an extensive report? What will make this interview interesting?
2. Do you have a good speaker at your company? Have they developed your brand messages? Are they interesting? How do they work on your brand's messaging? You need to invest in presentation training. If you haven't, then now is the best time.
3. Do you have any photos or videos you can give the journalist - something to add color and extra depth that can take them on a journey. It can be as simple as a video of you and your team working in the office. This helps them learn more about your brand in an instant.
Getting mentions and citations in popular news outlets helps build your brand’s reputation. Learning to communicate with journalists and news reporters is a must to maintain a consistent brand image and recall.
