YouTube Now Allows Video Creators To Have Their Handles

YouTube Now Allows Video Creators To Have Their Handles

The giant video platform, YouTube, announces the rolling out of handles, the social media feature that allows video creators a new way to identify themselves.

Dallas, TX – YouTube, the biggest video streaming platform in the world, has finally released the social media feature people have been wondering for some time why not available on its platform. Creators can now use, for example, the handle “@MyYouTubeChannel” to identify them in mentions and other activities across comments and channels in the popular video streaming platform.

“Handles will appear on channel pages and Shorts, so they'll be instantly and consistently recognizable. It’ll soon be simpler and faster to mention each other in comments, community posts, video descriptions, and more,” wrote YouTube in their announcement post.

According to the YouTube team, handles are unique to each channel. It is done to help creators build and establish their own unique brand on the video streaming platform.

This news from YouTube made social media experts and enthusiasts sigh in relief.

“Finally, that little feature crucial in branding is now available on YouTube. We’ve wondered for quite some time why video creators cannot make such a tiny feature available everywhere else. This move is a long time coming,” said Qamar Zaman, CEO and Digital Marketing Consultant of KISS PR, a website growth company in Dallas, Texas.

Zaman and his team at KISS PR immediately relayed this development to their clients, who had immediately gotten their YouTube handles. Although some accounts have already gotten theirs, YouTube said that handles are not available yet to all creators.

“Over the next month, we will notify creators when they can choose a handle for their channel,” the YouTube team wrote.

YouTube further said there are factors to consider when a YouTube account can obtain its unique handle.

“The timing of when a creator will get access to the handles selection process depends on a number of factors, including overall YouTube presence, subscriber count, and whether the channel is active or inactive,” YouTube explained.

YouTube wanted creators to note that when they create a handle for their channel, a matching URL is also automatically created. For example, when creating the handle @MyYouTubeChannel, the URL youtube.com/@MyYouTubeChannel will automatically be created.

YouTube said they automate the URL creation so that video creators can easily direct people to their content when interacting with their followers on other social media platforms or online places.

With this latest development, Zaman is looking forward to letting more businesses know the importance of building their brand, presence, and SEO on YouTube.

“YouTube is not only beneficial for brand-building. It helps improve your website ranking in the search engine result pages in Google,” Zaman revealed.

According to Zaman, Google prefers video content from YouTube when ranking in the SERPs as they own it as part of their digital ecosystem.
