Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI) Launches New Layers of Trauma Webinar in May 2024

The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI), an international educational organization, has announced a new webinar, which will be available to practitioners and mental health professionals as both a live and recorded digital event to maximize accessibility.

Scheduled for May 10, 2024, and available for purchase until the end of August 2024, the Layers of Trauma webinar will be hosted by Pat Ogden, PhD, SPI founder, and Ava Rose, LCSW, certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, as an insightful experience into a simulated online clinical demonstration to showcase how Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can be used to address complex trauma.

Attending the Layers of Trauma Webinar - Online Clinical Demonstration and Analysis

Interested attendees are invited to register for the webinar, which will run on May 10th from 11.00-1.00pm PCT, 1-3pm EST, 6pm-8pm BST, with participants invited to attend either live or to access the recorded webinar at a time of their choosing. The session comprises a two-hour presentation and will include 2 continuing education credits.

Pat Ogden and Ava Rose have created this webinar to showcase how Sensorimotor Psychotherapy might work in a real-world client therapy session and to address the debilitating aftermath of prolonged exposure to trauma. During this ground-breaking session, Dr. Ogden will demonstrate the ways that Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can assist with unwinding the cumulative impacts of trauma. Ava Rose, who is a method actor as well as a Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, portrays one of her clients, Ellen, who has a history of sexual abuse in the recent and distant past that is also impacted by intergenerational trauma.

Participants will be able to see Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in action and witness interventions such as how mindfulness, Sensorimotor Sequencing, and working with physical action might apply in a real-world therapeutic setting.

In this simulated scenario, participants will be able to watch how the client experiences an ongoing, instinctive freezing response that prevents her from setting boundaries and defending herself against threats. During the therapeutic session, Dr. Ogden will explore Ellen’s emerging traumas, showcasing how focusing on the internal experience and working with habits of response rather than memory content can facilitate change in the pattern of freezing. Several body-oriented mindful interventions that are designed to relieve symptoms and process traumatic memory will be introduced.
