Copa America 2024: Hidden Gems to Scout this Summer

Copa America 2024: Emerging Stars Ready to Shine in the United States"

The second of this summer’s two continental competitions has kicked off, with the best teams from the Americas taking part at Copa America 2024.

Both Argentina and Brazil enter the competition as favourites, with the South American heavyweights having won the last two Copa America titles.

But there are plenty of dark horses to watch out for, including the host nation, the USA.

Elsewhere, the likes of Uruguay, Colombia and Mexico will also fancy their chances of a deep run at this summer’s tournament.

So to celebrate the festival of football - or soccer, depending on where you are - this summer, we’ve picked out four hidden gems that could unexpectedly catch the eye in the States.

Kendry Paez - Ecuador

One of South America’s most promising talents, Kendry Paez has already penned a contract with Premier League Chelsea, who he’ll join in 2025.

In the meantime though, the midfielder will be hoping to catch the eye with his performances for club and country, starting with the Copa America.

Despite his tender age, the 17-year-old has established himself as an important part of the Ecuador side and should see plenty of the pitch.

And given they’ve been paired with Mexico, Venezuela and Jamaica, Paez and co. have a great chance of making it out of the group.

Santiago Giménez - Mexico

If we’re talking about players who could earn big-money moves on the back of this summer’s Copa America, Santiago Gimenez perfectly fits the bill.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Argentina, has been in fine form for club side Feyenoord all season.

During his 41 appearances in all competitions, Gimenez has found the net an impressive 26 times, with clubs across Europe said to be taking an interest.

Gimenez will be keen to keep his strong form heading into the Copa America, where he’ll lead the line for tournament outsiders Mexico.

Dario Osorio – Chile

From one promising young attacker to another, Dario Osorio has also been impressing in the European leagues, with the winger having joined Midtjylland last summer.

The hype surrounding Osorio is strong, with the Chile international tipped to make it to the very top.

A tricky forward who isn’t afraid to take on their man, Osorio also has an eye for goal, having netted nine times in 25 games for the Danish side.

While he’s unlikely to start every game at the tournament, Osorio is a dangerous weapon in the Chilean ranks and a player who could have a role to play in La Roja’s tournament.

Ederson – Brazil

No, not that one, but the other Brazilian Ederson!

While Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson might play like a midfielder at times, it's his namesake who has emerged as an emerging talent in the Brazil side.

Midfielder Ederson enters Copa America 2024 on the back of a stellar season with Atalanta, who lifted their first-ever European trophy with a win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

And with Premier League eyes fixed on the 24-year-old, a strong showing in the States should enhance his reputation even further.
