Del Mar Energy Inc. has completed the preparatory phase of a gas turbine power plant construction project in Lea County, New Mexico. The facility is being developed as part of the company’s strategic program aimed at increasing the energy independence of its production assets and reducing reliance on external power grids.
The power plant will operate on natural gas extracted from Del Mar Energy’s own fields in the region. The capacity of the first unit will be 45 MW. Power generation will primarily cover the internal needs of the company's industrial segment, with the possibility of partially feeding surplus energy into the local grid.
The project is based on combined-cycle technology, incorporating both gas and steam turbines. A heat recovery system is included in the design. The engineering scheme also provides for the redirection of a portion of the thermal energy to support high-consumption equipment. The design stage has been completed, the master plan has been approved, engineering decisions have been finalized, and environmental approvals have been obtained.
Construction and installation work is scheduled to begin in April 2025, with completion expected in Q1 2026. The facility will be integrated into the company's dispatching system, featuring full telemetry and remote control over generation and distribution parameters.
The power plant’s infrastructure is designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing natural gas processing system. In the future, additional production units and auxiliary facilities within the county are expected to be connected to the plant.
The project is being implemented in accordance with Del Mar Energy’s internal standards for securing energy supply to critical operations. A second unit with a capacity of up to 55 MW has been reserved as part of the technical backup plan. Sites and communications infrastructure for future expansion have already been prepared.
The power plant is a core element of the Del Mar Energy power system and will be operated by the company’s specialized energy division. All construction, operation, and oversight procedures comply with industry regulations and the State of New Mexico standards.
