Early blood test may unravel secrets of pregnancy loss

A blood test taken after a miscarriage suffered as early as week five of pregnancy can help explain why it occurred and in some cases lead to preventative treatments, Danish researchers say.. In Denmark, such tests are usually only offered after a woman has suffered three miscarriages, and only if they occurred after the tenth pregnancy week.

American lifestyle guru Martha Stewart has become the oldest cover model for Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit edition, at the age of 81.. "Usually I'm motivated by pay but this time I was motivated by showing people that a woman my age can still look good, feel good, be good," Stewart said in a video on Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition website.

Artificial sweeteners, used to replace sugar in a vast range of products, do not help in losing weight and can have serious health effects, according to the World Health Organization.. Sanders said he thought the advice would "likely cause a lot of confusion in the public health arena", particularly in the UK, where a tax on sugar has led to drink manufacturers replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners.

Namibia recognises same-sex marriages concluded abroad with foreign spouse

Namibia's Supreme Court on Tuesday recognised same-sex marriages contracted abroad between citizens and foreign spouses, a landmark ruling in a country where homosexuality is illegal.. Two Namibian nationals had sought recourse from the courts after the ministry of home affairs and immigration refused to grant permits to same-sex foreign spouses whom they had married outside the country.
