Sanitation firm fined $1.5mn for illegally hiring children

A sanitation company in the United States has paid $1.5 million in penalties for hiring over 100 children in "hazardous occupations" and having them work at meat processing facilities, the Department of Labor said Friday.. "Children were working with hazardous chemicals and cleaning meat processing equipment including back saws, brisket saws and head splitters," said the Labor Department in a statement.

One major non-American one was Chinese-owned TikTok, which on Friday said it had 125 million active monthly users in the EU. Several platforms had chafed at the introduction of the new EU rules -- and some said only that they did or did not qualify as a very big platform under the DSA. For instance, Amazon and Apple Store's iOS App Store said only that the number of people using their services monthly exceeded 45 million, without saying how many.

Sunak in Belfast talks with amended post-Brexit deal 'imminent'

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held talks near Belfast on Friday with local political parties as reports said an amended deal over the Northern Ireland Protocol could be reached imminently.. Sunak stayed overnight at the Culloden Hotel on the outskirts of Belfast and then held brief individual meetings Friday with leaders of the main Stormont parties, ending with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
