WHO warns against using artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners, used to replace sugar in a vast range of products, do not help in losing weight and can have serious health effects, according to the World Health Organization.. Sanders said he thought the advice would "likely cause a lot of confusion in the public health arena", particularly in the UK, where a tax on sugar has led to drink manufacturers replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners.

Namibia recognises same-sex marriages concluded abroad with foreign spouse

Namibia's Supreme Court on Tuesday recognised same-sex marriages contracted abroad between citizens and foreign spouses, a landmark ruling in a country where homosexuality is illegal.. Two Namibian nationals had sought recourse from the courts after the ministry of home affairs and immigration refused to grant permits to same-sex foreign spouses whom they had married outside the country.

Coming years 'critical' to slash plastic pollution: UN

The world must halve single-use plastics and slash throwaway consumption to stem the tide of environmental pollution, according to a UN report on Tuesday that warns the next few years are critical.  . "The next three to five years present a critical window for action to set the world on the path towards implementing the systems change scenario by 2040," it warned.

Yoon expressed the South Korean people's "support and solidarity to Ukraine, and our deepest condolences to the families of the victims", his office said.

Ukraine downs Russian barrage as China envoy due

Ukraine said on Tuesday it had downed an entire barrage of Russian drones and missiles overnight -- including six advanced Kinzhal missiles -- hours ahead of a visit from a special envoy dispatched by China.. Beijing's special envoy, high-ranking diplomat Li Hui, is expected to arrive in Kyiv for a two-day visit, as part of a European tour to promote Beijing-led peace negotiations on the war in Ukraine.

"UNHCR is saddened at hearing reports of deaths at displacement camps in Rakhine State in the aftermath of Cyclone Mocha," it said in a statement.
