Sweden puts brakes on treatments for trans minors

Sweden, the first country to introduce legal gender reassignment, has begun restricting gender reassignment hormone treatments for minors, as it, like many Western countries, grapples with the highly-sensitive issue.. In May 2021 -- before the Swedish authorities' decision to restrict  gender reassignment hormone treatments -- the prestigious Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm chose to restrict such hormone treatments to research projects only.

Pilots walk away from 737 crash in Australia

Two pilots have made a "miraculous" escape after their Boeing 737 water-bombing plane crashed and burned while fighting a blaze in remote Western Australia.. An investigation has been launched by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which said it was the first "collision with terrain" involving a Boeing 737 in Australia.

Police seize enough cocaine to supply N. Zealand for 30 years

Police said Wednesday they had seized enough cocaine to supply New Zealand for 30 years, after snaring a massive bundle of drugs floating in the Pacific Ocean.. Officials believe the drugs were dropped at a "floating transit point" in the Pacific Ocean, where they would have been picked up and taken to Australia.

More than 10 billion euros of that sum has been spent on providing a home for some four million Ukrainians who have fled the conflict for the EU. No new variants in weeks after China ended zero-Covid: study

No new variants of Covid-19 emerged in Beijing in the weeks after China ended its zero-Covid policy late last year, a new study said on Wednesday.. But the new study by Chinese researchers, which analysed 413 samples from Beijing sequenced between November 14 and December 20, said "there is no evidence that novel variants emerged" during that time.

Peru's president inspects area ravaged by mudslides

Peru's embattled President Dina Boluarte on Tuesday inspected a southern region ravaged by mudslides that killed at least 15 people and affected thousands.  . The official death toll from the mudslides is 15, but rescuers said many more people likely died.
